Songs of the Week 09/19
Songs of the Week
September 16-23
Steppin' Razor - Sublime
I was listening to Sublime heavy in the beginning of summer with my best friend Sydney in the park on my little JBL speaker, this ska heavy band makes the best 'off-beat' on beat sounds that I have ever heard. I like that some of there songs don't follow a certain rhythm and Steppin' Razor is probably one of my top Sublime songs right now.
Mother of Earth - The Gun Club
I had not known too much about the Gun Club and had only heard their song Sex Beat, which if you haven't heard I think you should take a little listen. Sex Beat was a lot more punk and sort of had a ska feel too, I actually ended up using the song for my animation reel. Mother of Earth is a lot more rock, reminds me a lot of 70's psych rock.
Kerosene! - Yves Tumor
Yves Tumor is an amazing artist that does psychedelic dreamy music like no other. I had listened to the whole Heaven to a Tortured Mind when it came out back in 2020, but I hadn't really gotten into the songs individually. My friend Sheridan showed me this song and it has been on repeat since. I like songs that feel sexy and this one is for sure one of them.
I Wanna Be in a Open Relationship - Posterboy2000
PosterBoy2000 is for sure a New York underground icon, his music is super punk. I Wanna Be in a Open Relationship is perfect to describe the current dating scene in New York. I feel this song is perfectly modern but brings in the sounds similar to 80's punk.
Darklands - The Jesus and Mary Chain
I had not listened to Jesus and Mary Chain before but this song just got me into them, I like that they are sort of a mix of goth, punk, and shoe gaze making them another one of those 80's bands that just knows how to do music.
Charlotte's Thong - Connan Mockasin
I feel weirdly vain whenever I listen to this song mainly because my name is Charlotte, but it's such a good jazz type beat song, I also like that the singing is sort of bad, bad singing is something that is my favorite in songs.
Shut Up (And Sleep with Me) - Sin With Sebastian
Classic club type europop song that is just so good, basically repeats the title over and over to a funky beat. I'm pretty sure this is the type of song I blast for 1 week then never listen to again.
Ballrooms Of Mars - T. Rex
I started my 20th year listening to T. Rex's 'The Slider' album, their music reminds me a lot of Bowie and Ballrooms Of Mars feels super dreamy and puts me in a trance whenever it plays.
Honerable Mention:
104.3 New York's Classic Rock Radio
I just got a cassette player that has a built in radio, this channel is really nice and has been playing lots.
